QUESTONS - FENDER FLARES and ARTICULATION

Hello everyone,  







Since this is my first post, I'll do a quick intro:







Bought my samurai in mid 1988 (my first vehicle).  Paid $7,500 OTD (right after the rollover crap started).  2" bod lift & 29" tires were on in days!







Did some mods in early 1990s, then it's sat for years.    I started it up every few years (and it started every time!!!)







Put on 33" BFgs and a calminin 5" SPUA .   Rub, rub, rub! this was about about four years ago. then it sat again.







Bringing the little beast back to life, and have some questions, for all you experienced Zuk pilots.











Here's what I need help with:







1.  I've looked at ALL the fender flare options and need something about 4-5" off the body.  Stockers are 2.750" wide, the Bushwackers are 6"+ (too much).  Can't get a hold of Zukboys, so I will not order them unless they are confirmed in stock.







     The jeep Sahara/Rubicon flares seem to have the perfect coverage and a nice "squared" look.   I've heard that the fronts are too "long/big" to work.  If they are "too long", why not just cut them in the middle and glue them back together?







     Can someone post some clear pics of this flare on a sammi?  And even some pics of the Zukboys flares?







2.  The next dilemma:  My lift.    I have the Calmini 5" kit, with a 2" body lift and 1" shackels in rear.   What can I do to get more articulation?  anybody experimented?

fender flares try JC Whitney. they don't look to bad on tracker.
 lift try spoa(spring over)
   i run calmini 2in S/R  stock springs(added leaves)in spoa great ride and flex.

For the Sammy there are a couple good articles on iZook.com located here for YJ flares and here for Trail Tuff flares.

 If you are wanting something to keep most of the slime off your windows ,cheap,easy to replace, tuff as nails and your not looking for airodynamics heres what I use. And SPOA will give you a lot more to work with.  Later M.Z.

i think a SPOA with the stock springs(mabey 1 or 2 leaves takin out) would yeild plunty of lift for you tire size.  and the articulation would increase alot.  MutantZuk made some home made shackels that increased flex.  their is a thread about them somewhere.

 If you do a SPOA, DO NOT REMOVE ANY LEAVES FROM THE STOCK SPRING PACKS, THIS MAKES THE SPRINGS VERY WEAK AND WAY TOO SOFT! If you want to do a SPOA, either use stock untouched springs, modified rear springs for the front, CJ springs, YJs, or Wagoneer fronts. Think about it, if you take one or two leafs out of a spring pack that only has like 4 in the pack anyway, don't you think that would make them a little weak? Sorry to be so harsh, but, I have seen a lot of very good advice and some bad on this site. I just hate to see someone possibly get hurt over something so trivial. Just try to keep the modifications you do to your truck on the safe side. It's more than just your life that you are responsible for when you modify your truck, it's also everyone else's on the road. If you have a spring break in the pack when you have only a couple left in the pack, you are more likely to have a possibly fatal accident on pavement. Sorry for the rant.

true true ,  I see alot of stock springs brake that havant been touched so would tend to agree witht he statement above , even if it was harsh :-) :P ;D

Have you seen or heard of the D FLex system for sammys.
I am not sure if he ships it to the US or not but the guys in the UK rave abouthow much articulation they get

  if anything,add one.they won't sag as fast,and add a little lift.and you can still use the stock plates.
