GM Alternator question for Samurai
« on: January 22, 2009, 12:34:04 PM »
Hey all, I have an 86' Samurai with a few mods, I want to add a GM alternator. My buddy gave me a Trail Tough bracket and said I need a Delco 12 alternator, I have been to a few local shops and no one knows what I am talking about?????? What are you using? Any help would be appreciated.

All your questions answered at:

I managed to find a 15 SI and shoehorned it into my Samurai...

The best way to select an alternator (10/12/15 SI) is to go to the junkyard and grab one that has the same belt pulley as your truck has.  Get it tested and "clocked" at an alternator shop so that the electric wires will be easy to access for service.  If you picked up an alternator at the junkyard and it does not work, use it as a core for the purchase of a new one.

Since you have the bracket, you have the big part of the project behind you!

Good luck!
