fuel injection
« on: January 24, 2009, 01:50:46 PM »
Has anyone actually done a 1.3 caberated motor to fuel injection? Found a 1.3 fuel injected tracker car in the junk yard. Pulled it allong with the harnesses and now want to install in my 1986 sammy. Would like any help with wiring the injection system plans/scematics ect. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPECIATED.

Trackers don't have fuel injected 1.3s......they are 1.6's.  The fuel injection is a similar setup between the samurai 1.3s and the tracker/sidekick 1.6s......but just letting you know what you have.
I've never personally done the swap (yet).....but the basics are.....
You will need the EFI coil, distributor and housing, tbi unit (and possibly intake), engine and ECM wiring harness, ECM, a high pressure fuel pump (either in-tank or external).
I'm not sure if the tracker TBI will fit the samurai intake, but if it doesn't, I know the tracker intake will bolt onto the samurai head.  Most of the rest of it is swapping the other parts, and wiring (ignition).

Thanks for the informaton. I could have sworn it is a 1.3 motor looks the same. Have the whole set up (complete motor, coil, injection unit & wiring harness). Guess I will have to get the swap kit to put it in the sammy something about a motor adapter to fit it w/trnsmission?

1.3s and 1.6s look the same externally (for the most part).  If you want to know for sure....look on the drivers side of the flange (where it mates up to the tranny) at the rear of the motor....there will be either a 1590, 1324, or 1298 stamped on it.....1590=1.6, and 1324 or 1298=1.3.
Yes, you can either buy or make an adapter plate to mate the 1.6 to the samurai 1.3 tranny.  The top 2 holes of the tranny and engine line up, but the lower holes are spaced out wider on the trackick tranny....that is where the adapter plate comes in, to securily couple them together.

Trackers don't have fuel injected 1.3s......they are 1.6's.

Cept the 89 2 door convertibles.  They come with the fun gears in them to make up for the smaller power plant.  :D

Wrong.  The 89s will have either an EFI 1.6 or a carbed 1.3.

It's the carbed 1.3 that has the 5.62 gears in it, We got lucky, my Brother and I found
one in the pick a part, and snagged the gears from it, they now live happily in my brothers
