cost of axle / carrier
« on: February 10, 2009, 06:41:16 PM »
OK, so I am still doing my research about swapping some 1996 - 1998 Suzuki Sidekick gears (5.13) into my 2003 Chevy Tracker. I have been going onto some of the local auto wreckers websites, and ended up on car-parts.com, which seems to list the inventory of a whole bunch of auto wreckers.

I am seeing prices of $350 - $450 on average (low of $225, high of $495) for a complete rear axle to a 1998 Sidekick, with the correct gears. Does this sound right? Also, the same wreckers are selling just the differential for the same amount. Does this sound right? I guess the complete rear axle without the differential is kind of a useless piece of scrap.

What are your thoughts.

I searched the salvage yards for an input shaft and they would only sell the complete transmissions. Someone said they went to a Pick n Pull yard and were able to get just the shaft. No Pick n Pulls in my area though. Perhaps if there are any close by you could try one of them.

I live in Indiana and a pick-n-pull around here is asking $200 for a complete front or rear end.

I picked up a complete front axle for $150 a few weeks ago, and last year I bought a rear axle with a Detroit Locker installed for $300. Look around some more, there are deals if you're patient.
