Agravating problem
« on: February 12, 2009, 10:41:45 PM »
I'm having a problem with my radio/cd player! Every time I use my brakes ,turn on head lights, use turn signal, brighten lights ect. my radio temporarily looses power. Seems like it is robbed of power. Whats up?Weak alternator? Or should I find different hot wire. also sometimes when I am idling the stereo starts blinking on and off. It's getting on my nerves!  :(

Sounds like a bad ground, have you got the ground wire on the back of the radio hooked up to a solid earth.

You've either got a bad connection, or a short somewhere. I'd start with the ground& positive wires and go from there.

I haven't had a Chance to pull the radio yet. I was kind of thinking in that direction myself. when I first got the 95 Tracker I had to rewire the secondairy hot wire or the memory hot wire to the stereo. Who ever wired it the first time twisted both hot wires together and connected them both to a switched source. every time i would turn off the ignition I would lose the stations I had programed and sound settings. So anyway I wired the memory wire to an un switched source. I guess I should have checked the ground at that time. Thanks for the suggestions.

Did you solder your connections to make sure they'd be good?

No I didn't! I've got every thing to do it to I just didn't bother. At the time I was planing to replace the CD Player/Radio with a new one . Still may I was thinking of finding an older cassette player because CD's tend to skip on the trail or at least thats my experience anyway. I guess you can still buy blank cassette tapes at Radio Shack. You know record some long playing mix tapes!

Or you can have both with this baby!

The sounds are a little flat out of it and the battery runs out after 4 or 6 hours, but it's a neat toy.  :D

Nice little gadget. You would think they would think of putting a port to plug like a cell phone charger in to it to reserve the lithium battery or even to recharge it.

It uses a standard USB plug to charge and it even comes with a 12v adapter for your power point.  You can even use your ff and rw button on the tape deck to jump between songs.

But if I'm running an extra cable then it would be for a tape deck adapter to go to my Garmin Nuvi GPS with the MP3 player.  Works great and it takes MP3 cards.  Next time though, I'm springing the extra money and getting one with an FM transmitter so I only need the power cable.

I prefer a direct plug-in. The head units can be had for well under $100 now (especially used). Even a cheap head unit with an iPod plug (or USB, or SD card, or...) sounds SO much cleaner than the FM broadcast gizzies.
