Zuki trail run - Alberta, Canada
« on: February 16, 2009, 08:47:56 PM »
Hey Guy's,

A Zuki enthusiasit calling himself Dukezukie is planning a weekend trail ride in the Alberta Rocky Mountains west of the town of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada.  I'll be there.  The trails are not as well defined as in Tellimook but this is my back yard.  I can take you on some trails as challenging as the ones in Tallimook.

Dukezukie orgasnized a run out there last year.  There were about 5 of us Alberta Zuki guy's who made it out.  Good time.  Good folks to trail with.

It is completely rustic camping.  No Services at all.  We do camp beside a creek but that's it for running water.  Plan on bringing your own out house.

If you are interested, post me a note and I'll log more details and GPS coordinates for the camp spot.

The run will be on the weekend of May 30 & 31.  There are trails that can be run with stock Zuki's.

Cool! Thank you for the information and the invite! If you have some coordinates / address that get us in the general area that would be great. I think I may be shocked as to how far away you guys are.

im just down in airdrie (about 2 hours form rocky mountain house) as long as its less then 8 inches of snow i can run pretty good, above and i start pushing snow... use to play in the hills in the okanogan in bc (still do when i make the drive out) it usually plays at mclean creek (till it shut down for the season) and the gates for the quads are just that little bit to skinny...

running 235/75r15 a/ts... hope to get some lift and the winch bumper mounted up in the next while...

GPS coordinates for a camp spot about 10 miles east of where the camp/meeting site for this run are:

N 52 degrees 14 minutes 847 seconds
W 115 degrees 18 minutes 125 seconds

I'll go out to the camp/meeting spot for this run in the next month or so with my GPS and get the a closer fix.

The site is approximately 60 KM west of Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, Canada, on secondary hiway 752.

are we talking mud, water crossings, dirt roads... what should we expect (ive still got carpet... so water crossings need to be shallow...)

loose gravel, dirt roads, forestry trails im good with. (its where its from)

but i dont see why i wouldnt be able to attend. gotta get all the camping gear unpacked from the basement (havent gone camping since last aug when we were in bc for vacation) which reminds me we need a new tent... (long drunken storey which ended with a tent with melted holes in it...)

Yes to all of the above.  There will be some mud, some creek crossings, gravel back roads and maybe a little snow in the upper elevations.

The good news is the mud should be fairly shallow as it may be still frozen a foot or so down and any snow we encounter should be soft and easy to push through.

We should have three units that know the area, know the bypasses to the really bad sections of the trails and they all have winches, tow straps, clevices,  snatch blocks and lots and lots and lots of experience getting un-stuck.  The other good thing with these guys is they also have lots of experience guiding/directing 4x4's through mud, up rock ledges and around obstacles.

And last but not least, you always have the option to back track if you are uncomfortable trying something.  We'll always make sure you get back to base camp.......no garrantees on what time you get back!

Oh and you have lots of time to find the camping gear.  The weekend run is at the end of May,

Yes last year was a great time even though I had to leave on Sat evening (damn wives...lol) not this year though I'm going out probably Thursday night and not coming home till late Sunday. It was my first Zuk trail experience and Curtis' knowledge of the trails made it a great trip. Anyone thinking of coming shouldn't hesistate you can't beat the scenery or the people, the world problems we solved around the fire Friday night was worth the trip alone...lol          Thanks again Curtis for all the Zuk parts they all made it home safely :)
                                  John

and mike I'll help you pull your seats and take your carpet out at camp if you like it wouldn't take long at all. I'm a mechanic and I bring tons of tools and spare parts along. Last year I had no water inside mine whatsoever but its lifted about 5.5" with 31" tires. I can't wait for May
Who knew 45 horsepower could be so fun???

i dont care much for the carpet that much, its torn up on the drivers side, but its a DD. so i dont want alot of water going through the truck... as long as im not over the rockers im good... or if its to a minimum of distance (to where water isnt going to enter the cabin)

man i gotta get some balls... but carpetless my truck is ugly... (fiberglass/cheaply replaced peices and rusty floorboards...)
