Cracking Winsheilds in Trackers ????
« on: March 02, 2009, 03:04:58 PM »
:( OK both the Wife and i have Trackers mines a 97 hers is a 92 at the Start of the winter they both had just a small rock chip the wifes had been Repaired with that squirt in epoxy or whatever they use to stop it from cracking.

Halfway thru this winter on a Very cold Morning i went out my Chip had Turned into 3 Ft long Cracks!
This was While the Tracker Sat still No heater on the glass no Bumpy ride it just Cracked! ???

Then a week ago the Wifes did the Same thing. Cold morning goes out its Cracked 2ft accross the top of the Glass,

Are Tracker Winsheilds Crappy Quality or was this just a Freak thing Happening?
Both my Ford vans have lotsa Rock chips that never get Bigger or Just CRACK all of a sudden.

It there any Brand i should ask for when getting the New ones installed both of ours are factory orignals.

Its $300 Deductable on my Insurance per tracker so im out $600 for both Trakers to have new glass put in.  ::)

No they are not defective. If your wife's windshield was repaired they did not do a good job. Small chips crack like that when water gets into them and freezes. The pressure on the thousands of micro cracks in the break is what causes the crack to spread. Next time get them fixed as soon as they happen with a reputable repairer and save the money for Off-Road accessories. There is no deductible for repair with most insurance policies.

i has a small chip happen near the edge of my kicks windshield and it cracked on a cold morning (-30) went to get it repaired and it cracked everytime they went to clean it out (drill)
shop tried twice to repair it, it just cracked another inch each time. i got called and said they didnt want to go any further as it was just getting worse.

but a new windshield is only $250 installed... and rock chips over winter always happen... a windshield a year on most cars ive been told.... >:(

actually yes, in Canada.

and thats from the Suzuki dealer. had them double check the price... i didn't believe them either.

i can probably get it a bit cheaper too, as the significant other works at a gm dealer and deals with the glass shop alot...

Oh Ok i will shop around more then.
No Zuke Dealership where i live tho.
I just called a few ICBC Glass Repair places.
they know the insurance Deductable is $300 so they make sure to soak up all that + more.

Deductables on Windsheilds used to be $50  ::) Not anymore unless ya pay thru the Roof for extra coverage.
