I must ask why it bothers some of the members when new people post up questions that have obviously been asked before.

The only time it bothers me is if the same question is posted on the first page. I've seen the same question up to four times on the first page of the tech area  Even then, I try to just answer the question - unless it's "complicated" in which case I'll just find a thread where the issue's been hashed out, a good how-to article, or ACK's FAQ.

If it's cool, I'll just post another "dear newb" in a few days, share what I know (with links to sources where I can), and then leave it up to other people to share their knowledge and ask questions. If you want to move things around - or if you'd like me to stop (so it doesn't conflict with your plans for an FAQ) just let me know... I'm easy 

Turns out I know very little but am learning. Things like SPOA that people throw around on here as common term, took me awhile to figure out what it was. So it would be nice to have one place to learn basics, then be able to post better questions, and understand answers better.

i agree. i think that could be a dear newbie all in it's own; the definitions of all the acronyms that are thrown around by the pros that take a ton of reading for someone new to this sort of thing to figure out.

example: spoa, soa, OME, SR, AA, DA,IFS, SAS, SPUA, PS, OTT, ETC. of course i know there are a million more, i just can't think of them, but you get the idea, kind of a dictionary.

A dictionary of sorts would be great. I think I know like 2 or 3 of those you put up. HAHAHA I got a lot of reading still!!!

Originally it meant someone that is new.  According to Wikipedia it was used in the military.

For on-line use it was a derogatory term you used on someone who was crappy/sucked/didn't know the basics.  Usually for video games.  Basically if someone screwed up or asked a stupid question, he was a 'fscking newb'.  I"m not a big fan of referring to people as newbies for that reason, cause I'm old school like that.  Unless they annoy me.  Fscking noobs... 

Now it has gone back to just being someone new.  But only in the full proper spelling of newbie.  n00bs still szck something hardcore.

It took me way  to long to figure out what R.U.F. was... I didn't want to look stupid, so I never asked...
