Does anyone pull a pop-up camper?

Does anyone pull a pop-up camper?

Does anyone here pull a pop-up camper with a Trackick?  I know the 2 door is only rated for 1000 lbs.  The camper weights about 1700.  I would put new brakes on before attempting this and I wouldn't be taking it through mountains.  It would probably stay in Illinois.  For longer trips we would use the Montero Sport.  Any thoughts?

I know of a guy who tows a 14' aluminum boat with a 9.9 on it and it does just fine.  I just asked this question a few months ago, or maybey even longer...... ;D  I've got a 2000 with a 2.0 and someone I'm pretty sure pulled 2000 # with his with no problems, (give or take).  I think the big thing is the wheel base, and the length and weight of the camper.  If you have access to getting electric brakes, that's a HUGE help, also a weight distributing hitch is also a good idea, I'm sure your Kick/Track can pull it.  Just keep it as light as possible (ie, don't travel with the water tanks full, etc. etc.  And you'll be fine with all that stuff.  Otherwise like you said, just use the Montero, that should be plenty enough for  a tow rig for your camper.   Dave ;D

I foind the Track/Kick tows OK



It isn't legal but it manages (just) ;D ;D Needs a good push on the brake lever down hill and good use of the lower gears  ;D ;D ;D

I tow a 16' Scamp camper weighing near 2k#'s with the -7. I towed this Scamp empty with a 99 1.6l Tracker I once had.

where the rear seats go and pull a goose
neck trailer, if for nothing else the looks I'd
get going down the road, it's funny enough
watching people about break their necks just
to get a second look at the big swampers on
the little trucklet, add a 5th wheel trailer and

That would be golden ;D I'd like to see that.



I did a lot of research on trailer pulling with my 4-door and it's not that impressive, but it carries all my boats (canoe and kayaks) and gear so I'm happy. I remember one of my first questions on this forum was on trailer pulling if I remember correctly. I want to try towing a 2-door in the near future, but I'll wait until I have nothing to lose (if you know what I mean ;) )

Pull a military trailer. Pull the M101 trailer. It's much wider than your Kick, sits about 5' tall, runs on 38" military tires, bed is 6x8x1.5, and it's all sheetmetal. Weighs in at ~1400 due to the axle and drums (really massive). It'll carry your Kick for sure, even off-road. Military surplus sells them in various conditions. What's really best about it, it has parking brakes like all military trailers. I had one and pulled it with my 00 Tracker couple of times. I no longer have it, as I've got the camper now. The trailer hauled my camping gear. Lastly, since it has a pintle hook, it'll pull great off-road except when it pushes you off your line.

I'll be making a teardrop trailer to haul around behind the Sunrunner. They are pretty light...anywhere from 500-1000lbs  depending on size and materials used. I'll have it lifted a bit and run the same tires as the Sunrunner so I wont have to worry about a spare for the trailer.  Plus if rotating them in with the other tires they will last quite a while :) The other benefit would be that I can take it offroad to go camping.
