Trail Tough springs too soft 4 some.
« on: April 14, 2009, 06:18:57 PM »
Have a X90/Sidekick & installed Trail Toughs link kit/Toyota axle conv. kit. After running the veh. for over a yr. now & added aprox. 200 lbs. of metal (bumpers, sliders, spair tire carrier & cage), the veh. bottoms out everywhere. I never installed the supplied shocks with the kit but used better res. Fox's on rear & res. Bilstein's front. They are gas charged & should help but driving down a dirt road & running over a rock or ditch more than 3" bottoms out my rig hard. Ok, the kit is sold as "rock crawler" in design but in my world it requires driving sometimes 5-10 miles off road & most off the crew wants to run 30-40 mph on these dirt roads. I have to drop down to 15 every time I see a 3'' or greater hit. DON'T get me wrong about the kit. It works awesome crawling but seriously lacks as a cross country rig. Yes i spoke with Brent but he said "no" to offering a (heavy duty) spring option. Iv'e talked briefly with a guy selling his 4dr Kick on San Diego Craigs list with the same kit & he too had the problem with springs too being soft. He replaced them with better/stiffer spring but i never found out who made them. Now I know several people on ZukiWorld have this kit so hope/pray someone has done the research. Would like 50 lbs increase on each spring if poss. PLEASE HELP  :(

Try Blue Coil springs, they make many different rates and lengths.
The usual stuff, and 2nd generation Air to liquid intercooled TURBOCHARGER

Contact Liberty Overland www.liberty-overland.com. I had the same suspension put in my new adventure vehicle and they tweaked the suspension to accommodate for the V-6 and extra weight of the cage, full size spare etc....  They can order you what you need.

I also have the slayer kit on my vehicle(i actually have kit #1 which is a little different than the kits sold now)and i too have had Liberty Overland help rework my suspension. i have added solid bumpstops, reworked the rear shock mounts to accomodate bilstein rebuildible shocks, and changed the springrate. In my opinion the shocks and bumpstops are the best upgrade you can do to these things, however changing the springs is manditory also. Eric is awesome to work with and does top notch work. Give him a call and he'll hook you up!

I had to go up in spring rate in the front. I think I am running a 255lb 14" coil and am planing on increasing that to about 16" coil same rate. The no uptravel on these trucks is undesirable for most of us who run these kits on various terrain. I think about 5-6" of up travel is just about perfect with some really good bumps stops. Liberty overland did my bump stops when my junk was up there getting the V6 installed. I need better shocks too.
