1986 Sammy fender flares
« on: April 21, 2009, 05:29:25 PM »
Second question from a newcomer.  Can anyone recommend a supplier for fender flares for a 1986 Samurai?  Running 31 inch tires (not sure how wide) and I need to stop the mud from flying up! Thanks

You can use the rear flares from a Jeep YJ, they work pretty well.  I have a set of front YJ flares mounted backwards on the rear, they keep most of the mud off without issues.

Petroworks sells wider flares, as does Calmini. Trailtough and Rocky Road Outfitters sell the wider Bushwhacker YJ flares. The ones from Calmini or Petroworks might work the best for 31-10.50s as both sets are fairly narrow yet wider than stock. If you have a rust issue where the flares mount, get the Calmini flares, they attach using rivets.

OK another question... would you go with 4.5 inch or 6 inch flares on 1986 Sammy?? I have 31 inch s.swampers by 10.5 inch... Looking for feedback from anyone with an opinon... am leaning towards the bushwackers...

I would suggest you take a broom handle and stand it up against the outside edge of the tires and measure from the body where you would mount the flares (not on the current flares on it now) and measure to the broom handle. This should give you a pretty good idea of how wide the new flares should be in order to cover at least the tread of the tires. Hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!
