Clutch replacment
« on: April 28, 2009, 01:15:24 PM »
Im getting ready to drop my tranny and replace the clutch today. I have a few questions that might make it somewhat easier for me....maybe.

1. Is it better to seperate the tranny and t case before removal? or just remove the tranny and tacse as a whole unit???

2. Do you have to remove the rear crossmember(t case mount) to remove the tranny/tacse as a whole unit? Or can I just leave it installed and finess the whole unit out?

1. No
2. Yes/ Once you unbolt the trans/engine put a jack under the transmission drain plug (center point of balance-or a good tranny jack), then unbolt the crossmember, it will turn 90 degrees and come out around the tailpipe.
Have your engine on a cherry picker or some other strapping to avoid having the distributor smash into the firewall, many members say a 2X4 or something helps back there.
There are two wire plugs at the top of the tranny and one breather hose, disconnect.
Remove both shifter knobs.
Be careful when pulling the tranny unit back it can bind on top, slowly lower the jack as it comes apart from the engine.
What clutch are you using?

Thanks, The tranny actually slid right off with ease. I used a strap that I ran around the cab through the doors and another strap through the t case hole.Once it came loose from the engine I set the bell housing on the ground and then lowered the strap in the cab.
I am using an Daikin clutch or I have been told OEM
