junkyard sammi. whats it worth?
« on: May 06, 2009, 09:58:06 AM »
sooo, the other day we discovered a new pick n pull type place here in town, so we decided to take a field trip just for fun. we werent expecting to really find anything, just to look around. as we wandered through the smallish junk yard we spotted a tracker and made a beeline to it. as i was inspecting the tracker(and removed the rubber window seals, which work great on  my sammi) my dad continued to search. i pretty much dropped everything when i heard him yell "hey theres a sammi over here!" so i ran over to investigate and what we found was a pretty good conditioned stock 87 samurai. so here is the scoop.

the samurai has a pretty much perfect body, except the usual big dent in the hood from it hitting the windsheild, and  a busted windsheild.

it is not a tintop, but does have a removable hard top.

5 tires and wheels, all hold air and have good tread.

interior is decent.

now all that being said, i did not check the odometer, so i do not know what the milage is. it has a key in the ignition, but battery is dead and starter is gone. carb is missing and the radiator/fanv and a few other things from the engine compartment not exactly sure what. obviously this thing was in no accident, so what kind of problems would it have, and if the junkyard is willing to sell it, what would be a price to throw out there?   i will try to get some pics today if i can.

WOW :o

Lucky you!!! I wish I could find a Sammi somewhere on a junkyard, here in my country we simply don't have any car junk yards where one could find the whole car for $100-$500. Usually when somebody get ridding of his/her car there's just completely naked (and most commonly crashed) body left.

Considerring your, I mean US prices for Sammis and it's condition, it should be something about $100-$200.

What do you plan on doing with the Sammy should you be able to pick it up?  Unless you just like having projects laying around, and who doesn't, I would take a look at the game plan before asking how much to bring it home.  :)

yeah drone you are probably right, but sometimes it is fun to put the cart before the horse lol. well i havent really thought about it to much, it would be my dad's daily driver, he would want something with largish tires, 30/31s? enough lift to clear, new engine(transplant from his tracker?) not entirely sure. and the reason i have not thought too much about what to do to it is i am afraid to get my hopes up. what if they are not willing to sell the whole car? or at least for our price range ya know?

dimitros, how much did you end up spending on your SPOA that you did to your rig?

A non-running Samurai should be worth about $1000 around here. I can find 1.6L, 22r, or 1.3L replacements for around the $500 mark. I say a proper SPOA costs (including tires & wheels) costs a minimum of $2000 (5 tires & wheels alone are around $1000 new). There's break lines, high steer, power steering, t-case or diff gears, swing away tire carrier (so you don't break your t-gate with big spare) etc etc etc... it starts adding up quick.

If I were doing another Samurai, I'd do 29" tires, SR or RUF, some armor, spool rear, lockrite front and be done with it.

Had no time for a couple last weeks to answer, because I've became father on May 5 ;D ;D ;D. And after I took my wife from maternity hospital on May 9 my life has changed a "bit"! Less time for friends/hobbies/entertainment/.... and especially less time for sleep.

mypocketsrful, who sad I'm SPOA ???, I'm still SPUA yet . If I remeber correctly  that Calmini 3.5" lift kit cost me about $1.2k + installation for free by myself. Yes tires&wheels worth me another $1k.
