Picked up the round clock for the dash on my 87 sammy.  I Thought I saw somewhere on here how to install it, but cant find it.  Can someone walk me through it?

Also picked up a used cluster, with tach.  These are simply plug and go right?

Assuming you have the round factory clock and the tach cluster from an 86-88 samurai.....
You will have to cut the hole out for the clock (I don't think it is just an insert that you can pull out to install the clock).  The plug for the clock will be in behind the dash somewhere.
The tach cluster will be plug and play.

Tach works great.  Clock dont work, checked fuse.  Are their any other fuses or links to check besides the one in the fusebox?  The FSM says the clock runs off the same fuse as the horn.

Are you sure the clock is good?
You could also check to make sure you are getting voltage on some of the wires in the plug.  There should be a constant 12V with the key off (for memory), then there should be another wire that gets 12V when the key is turned to the run position (that makes the clock screen light up so you can read it).

No, not sure if the clock is any good.  I'm going to have to do some testing at the plug and see if it is getting power to the clock.  Got all of this stuff for free, in as is condition.

Went out and pulled the clock out.  Opened it up, and there are 3 wires inside.  2 of those wires are not attatched to anything on one end (at the plug).  The other wire (red) is still attached at the plug, but not at the other end.   The ones at the plug are an easy fix, but not sure where the red wire was attached.

Hey, at least the tach worked!!!  Anyone got a clock they want to get rid of?

Bad plan.  You've got one right spot and who knows how many wrong spots.  Hit the wrong spot and the clock jumps off the workbench amid a shower of sparks.

I say look for a solder joint that is close to the other two connection points and appears to have a bit of wire sticking out of it.  If you can post a pic of the clock board I can probably tell you where it goes.

Just took it all the way apart.  I see where the wires go, need to get a heat gun to melt the solder and reattach them. 

oh, meant to ask....these wires all attach to the underneath side of the board.  In other words, the wires run from the plug, to the board and are soldered on the backside of the board.  I need to melt the solder that is plugging the hole for the red wire.  Is there a trick to doing this?  I dont imagine you can heat the board without damaging it.  Maybe putting a needle in the hole and heating the needle?  They are small holes, it would have to be something small like a needle.

Heat gun won't do it for melting solder.  You'll need a soldering iron.  Electronic Solder just barely starts to melt at around 300 degrees Fahrenheit or so and you will need to get the connection quite a bit hotter than that pretty quick to be able to re-solder the wire.  I usually keep my digital soldering station set to around 650-700 degrees when I'm doing general purpose soldering...  Less if I'm using sensitive surface mount chips and stuff.
