Bumpstops
« on: May 17, 2009, 04:52:46 PM »
I am running about 2 inches of lift in the rear of my 2 door track. The problem is with 31" tires on any kind of hard articulation they obviously rub, quite a bit. I really dont like the idea of using a body lift, or cutting up my track.

So my question is; has anyone tried to extend their rear bumpstops to control tire rub? If i could make the bumpstop just long enough to keep the tire out of the fenders at full stuff, I would be super happy.

Any ideas om how to do this?

Or should I just get taller, or give in to the darkside and go with like a 2" body lift?
( problem with that is relocating my rock rails... and bumpers... )

bumpstops would work but wasnt part of the idea behind the lift gaining articulation :-\, if you go with the bstops make sure you estimate how much they will compress. many online 4x4 stores like rocky road make aftermarket bump stops extended bump stops

I just wonder if limiting the up-travel just enough to keep the tires out of the fenders would be a good compromise as compared to a body lift, or even taller springs.

The stock rear bump stops can be relocated with a fairly simple spacer. Dave Jones sells these but they are fairly simple to make if you can drill and tap.

just ordered a pair myself,

getting older and starting to get nervous about the grinding of the tyres up in the rear arches; will have to sacrifice some articulation I think!
