97 tracker d\s front cv joint-splines-hub
« on: May 18, 2009, 10:27:10 AM »
hey guys i something weird going on how about some ideas?
i thought my front passenger side wheel bearings were getting bad (noisy\light vibration).
but when i jacked the truck up & spun the wheel you could hear a clicking noise coming from the  manual locking hub (only in free).
so i take the hub off the noise goes away.
the hub  seems to operate fine.(engages & disengages)
the wheel bearing feels ok.(no play)
but my cv joint\axle shaft seem to be loose,or to be more exact where the shaft goes through the steering hub you can wobble it left\right\up\down?
is the axle supposed to ride on a bushing inside the steering hub?
is my steering hub worn out?
or is my manual locking hub worn out?

thanks for any help

There will be a little movement but not a lot, how much movemet are you talking about?. Can you move it in/out (movement like you yere pulling the shaft out of the back of your hub)?
