might be a stupid idea but i gotta ask
« on: May 24, 2009, 12:17:09 PM »
how different are jeep body lift spacers to a track/kick body lift spacers. i ask because i still have my tracker, my brother doesnt  really want it, my trans blew in my monte so im still drivin it finally started wheelin it and now i almost want to sell my monte after i fix it and dump money in the track cause its just to much fun. what im gettin at is a buddy of mine has a 2 inch jeep kit in the box and wants 50 for it. so if any one thinks it will work i thnk i might like to do it. cause i really want more tire, cause it went pretty far as it is with street tires, in thick stuff, but on the trail i kept wacking the front diff, so i just want that little  more height from the tire. oh i got some pics of the wheeling to if anyone wants to see it, thanks.

The Jeep kit will not work. Get the body lift kit from Sky MFG. However that will not fix your clearance problem except that you will be able to run larger tires. If you are on a budget get some spring spacers a couple of people here on the board make them. do the Hagen widening, instructions are in the article archives. get a pair of strut spacers to increase the articulation, available from the same people. get larger tires 31's will fit. Rear axle, do the hagen over rotation instructions available in the same place. Get new axle shock mounts from Sky MFG and install shocks from a 1990's era Crown Vic. These simple mods will make your truck virtually unstoppable on all but the most extreme trails. Good Luck

i didnt think they would but, i wannted to check cause they are cheap and availble through a friend. my plans all along were to get the spacers from the guy i think its jeff thats on here, and a do a 2 inch body lift and run 31s. i figured if the jeep spacers would work ited give me a start. but if they wont work then i will wait and i will get the monte back on the road, take the tracker off and yank the motor and rebuild it cause the rings are shot, then worry bout the lift and things, it was just a though ihad when they mention having the kit. went out wheelin again tonight, definatly need a set of manual hubs if im gonna keep this up the those autos make all kinds of noise from time to time. tjanks

Jeff makes good stuff.  BUT if your big concern right now is your front diff (aluminum, good cause for concern), you may want to consider a nice, heavy front skid first (Aftermarket4x4, Masterkit1, Calmini, etc) then worry about how cool it looks.  Because no matter how tall you make it, you'll have that fear for your aluminum transfer case and diff every time you start going over a big rock you're not completely sure of.  My $.02.

skids and rocksliders and things are projects my brother and i are contemplating taking on ourselves. the skid plate thing was in my head when i first looked at it before buying it, because of its ground clearance. the rockslider idea i have pretty much would integrate the slider with the body and be tied into th frame, cause the rocker is just plain not there rotted.

Looks like it got you in, and back out.
Not much left of your rock panels.  I replaced my rock panels with 2X4 tubing, but I had something to weld to.  It cold be done if there is something underneath to weld it to, but much more work.  This is where I started http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php?topic=22395.0.
93 Tracker,XL7 springs & 1" raised spring pads in front with YJ springs in back, home built bumpers rear & front (w/winch), 2" x 4" rock tubes,  ARB front & rear, converted Sami rear to IFS, 33x12.5x15  aluminum rims, roll cage, 2.7L w/5 speed auto.

believe it or not thats what gave the id to fix my rockers like that. its kinda odd how its rotted, the innner structure is great, the underside of the sill and th inboard sect is great. i needed a tug twice while i was up where we were, but its alot worse than it looks, the trails arent horrrible though, makes for a nice sunday run
