Is the 2.0 bolt-on, as Ive heard?
« on: June 30, 2009, 05:05:37 AM »
Somebody told me on another forum that I could drop a 2.0 from an xl7, did he mean a Grand Vitara, or a latter Vitara with the 2.0? He also told me that it'd be bolt-on on the engine mounts and the tranny (I have the 3 speed), is that true?

Cause if that fits "mechanically" on my car, I'll grab a 2.0 instead and change the computer and wiring... that's gonna be less trouble than rebuilding the 1.6 with mods and everything...

The Grand Vitara has a V6 in it, Vitara's have the 2.0L.  You can also get it from the standard Trackers or both of the 2 door trackers.

The bellhousing is the same, I'm not sure about an automatic transmission though.  On the manuals  you need a bushing for an adaptor.  The motor mounts are different so you will need to change them.

If you contact aftermarket 4x4 (http://www.aftermarket4x4.com) they have more information on the swap and sell most of the parts needed.  I have discussed things with them before and they are a great group to talk to.

Well if they don't fit like the guy told me, I won't bother. Ordering a swap kit from the net is going to cost alot since I'm from Quebec.

I guess I'll rebuild a 1.6 8-valve out of three engines and makes some mods to have more power then  :-\ I need to remove the engine and drop a "new" one in there anyway, so I'll take some time to crack it open, clean the hell out of it and and maybe port the engine, change the cam and pistons, change the manifold for a performance one, do a better CAI than I have right now, and change the cat.

Call Sean |removethispart|@ aftermarket 4x4, he's known for doing engine swaps. He's actually got a lot of engine swaps detailed on that linked web site.

That is great info, but it's incomplete. There's no mention of how to adapt the wiring harness. I'd love to put in a 2L, but the wiring stuff has me stumped!

The guy told me that the engine is the 2.0L from a Grand Vitara '99, it's supposedly bolt-on except for, obviously, the electronics. Weird... Im gonna ask him more (cause according to that log, there's more job than what he said!)

I just pulled an engine / wiring harness out of a complete 4-door. It doesn't look like it's hard to do the wiring at all. MOST plugs are keyed & color coded to go into their respective sensor / box.

Yea, they didn't post the second half of their writeup.  If you check with Aftermarket 4x4 they can tell you what needs to be spliced to what. Or you can just send them the wiring and they will splice things together and ship it back.
