Door switch, dome light
« on: July 21, 2009, 06:23:54 PM »
Hey everyone.  couple questions

My domelight has never come on with the door, not a big problem, but got me thinking bout the door switch.  I was wheeling last weekend and all of a sudden I got a beep under the dash, its coming from behind the steering wheel, I have taken the door switch out and sanded the contacts, and the point where it grounds to the body, now the buzzer is TWICE AS LOUD, then when I push the door switch in is the quiter beep I was having before. Could there be another cause for the under dash beep?

btw, even after "fixing" the switch, my dome light still dont come on with the door.

Thanks

First thought is you have a bad ground somewhere which is attempting to use the door switch as ground.  Bad grounds cause all kinds of weird things.  Get the factory wiring manual and check the grounds which will be located by the manual.  Good Luck.

Well, I found out the beep was infact the door beep, but there is a wire running to what looks like the back door, but I dont see a switch on the door or the frame??  I just reached up and unplugged the wire to shut it up, so just for the hell of it, is the domelight sposed to come on with the drivers door of the sammy opens?

Don't know specifically about the sammi but I had a similar problem with my tracker.

The door switch is on the ground side of the dome light/beeper circuit.  When the door opens the switch completes the ground.  The problem is the switch is mounted low on the door where water & crap eventually gets in there and partially shorts it out.

If I drove on a rainy day, my door beeper would make a little squeaky chirp or the dome light would come on dim.  I ended up just disconnecting the switch.  Remember, that circuit is not switched through the ignition so that's a constant drain on the battery.  In the tracker I can still turn the dome light on manually if I want to and I really don't need the beeper because if you lock your keys in a soft top & can't figure out what to do about it, well...

you would make a poor thief, thats for sure!!

does anyone know if in a stock sammy the dome light is supposed to come on with the door? I am assuming so, the dome light I have has 3 settings, usually thats on, door actuated and off, mine is, on off and VERY off.

I am actually that bored, that I care enough to try to get my light to come on with my door.

I found my self bored one day looking up at my non-op dome light.  Just pulled the cover off of it and scuffed up the contacts on the switch. Door switch is still a no go, but I'm happy enough with the switch working.
