Where to get cheap 235s?
« on: June 08, 2004, 06:52:39 AM »
I wanted a set of Cooper 235/75/15 M/t tires like PepBoys used to sell under their name.  They tell me that they no longer carry that tire.  Where can I get a set of aggressive 235's that aren't too expensive?

Walmart (believe it or not), Tirerack, or Discount Tire.

All have very reasonably priced aggressive 235's

check your local car dealership.  my buddy works at Nissan and one day i was looking for tires for my other ride.  He asked what size and then told me to come down to the lot.  When they take vehicles in on trade in, the dealership must replace the tires! even the ones that are new!  i don't think I've paid for normal sized tires in over 3 years!

Where do you live? I know our local Farm&Fleet stores carry cooper tires and their prices are cheap.

That is a great suggestion.  There are a few Farm and Fleet stores about an hour from me.  I'll call them tomorrow.

I just got a set of 4 Lemans ATs for under $270 installed by Firestone (in Florida)  They are very HD and well made 235/75/15LT and they fit the standard alloy rims and fit the wheel well nicely.  Lemans is kind of their house tire brand and are reasonably priced.  Lemans tires have a web site.  Firestone is apparently willing to price them real low to move them.  Fairly aggressive tread and sidwalls too.

How tall do 235's stand? I'm looking for some decent road tires... stocker's are a little too small for my liking, and I don't have wheels big enough for my old 33x12.50's radials :(

235/75/15's are about 29 inches tall. They vary a little by manufacturer.

A 235/75-15 is about a 29" tire :)

Yes, I started this thread before I got them.  The thread was resurrected recently.  I am very happy with the Hi-Tech's so far.  I have about 1000 miles on them and have had them wheeling twice.  They performed great.

What is the step above a 235x75xR15? 245x75xR15? How tall are those, and will they fit on a stock wheel?

The 235 retreads are actually bigger than a regular 235 I think.  Several people said that a 235 should fit on my spare tire rack.  There is no way one of my retreads will fit on the stock carrier.  I can measure them tonight if you want.  (Took the bike to work today!).

I would buy some retreads, but I need them before the weekend, so I was just thinking some cheap-o Walmart tires.   :-/
