Fog Light Questions...
« on: September 14, 2009, 08:40:59 PM »
Alright, I have an 02 XL-7 that did not come with fog lights already installed.

Called my dealer for a fog light kit and they told me it's been discontinued.

I have an after market set I want to install but I want to run the lights through the stock wiring system as much as possible.

I printed out a headlight circuit diagram from work and it clearly shows two relays for the fog light system.

My questions are, did Suzuki include these relays even on models with out fog lights installed or did they come with the kit they offered?

If they do in fact have relays where the hell are they because the wiring diagram doesn't specify where they are located (under the dash or under the hood)?

I've tried tracing the wires that come out of the harness that plugs into a blank tab on the dash board where the fog light switch would be but it get's difficult as they get bundled in with hundreds of other wires from all over the place.

Are the wires hanging around somewhere behind the grill that I just have to plug in and ground them to make them work?

My kit came with it's own relay but like I said I want to run this through the stock system as much as possible.

alot of newer vehicles ive worked on have the fog and other relays mounted underhood. check your owners manual for location of fuses and relays, it will give where its located and what sizes. wiring would be reight behind front bumper if its there at all. some factory kits have seperate harnesses that plug in.

sorry im not a better help but i mostly wire aftermarket lights into chevs and dodges.

The manual doesn't tell you where the relays are.

No big deal, I found the info on Mitchells on Demand.

The two relays are supposed to be on the left hand side of the engine compartment along with the relays for ABS system and the rear A/C and blower motors if equipped... so from what I can tell the fog light relays are not installed.

Now I just have to find out of the wiring actually comes out into the engine compartment somewhere.

I'm 99.999% sure you don't have the wires/relays, but I do vaguely recall having a leftover bulb socket by each headlight.  I think they were for bulbs inside the headlight assembly that Trackers don't have, though.  I'll try to remember to take a look over lunch.

Follow-up:  Nope, your harness doesn't have provisions for the fog lights.  I also don't recall anything on the switch end, but if you found something there, that's a good start.  Did the wire colors match up with your schematic?

On the plus side, it's easy to get a stock switch, and there've been write-ups on this site on how to wire in fog lights and relays.

Hey beercheck, thanks so much for that info.  It's looking like the wiring for the fog lights doesn't come out to the engine compartment.

The schematic shows dotted lines that come out of the DRL modulator that connect to the relays if they were installed and I don't see them as far as I can tell.

This makes sense because copper wires and relays are expensive and why would Suzuki put them in  at no cost..ha ha...wouldn't make very good business sense.

Anyhow, that's that, I've got all I need to install the aftermarket kit so I'll be doing that hopefully this weekend.  :)
