CB Antenna
« on: August 03, 2004, 02:58:21 PM »
Where could I mount my CB antenna on my Tracker? I have tried one of those windshield/fake cell phone deals, but they don't work too good. I have thought about behind the spare on the spare mount. I know CBs went out with BJ and the Bear, but I still like them, and mines collecting dust.

i am going to put one on next year, and i am gong to get the 3' ones that have the spiral in them like truckers use.  they are popular around here.  i am thinking of running a mount out from under the hood on each side where there is that more open space tward the rear of the hood.  just an idea 8)  i have see an 8' one off the left corner of the rear bumper too that looked good...

I have mine coming off my spare tire carrier bolt. I used a simple 1" angle piece, drilled 2 holes in the different planes. I added a flat spacer to keep the bracket off the paint. I ran the cable under the swing door and haven't had a problem, opening or closing. I think I have pics in the webshots.

As for the cb itself, it's a small Uniden unit sitting on top of the parking brake handle. Haven't figured a nice place for it yet.

If I were to get one of those firestick thingers (coiled wire) antenaes, does it have to be a certain distance above the vehicle, or could it be mounted on the fender below the hood so that it only sticks up about a foot and still get a good signal?

I have always been told the higher up on the vehicle, the better signal.
