Anyone knows how to and or have instructions to replace the cabin air filter for my 2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara XL-7 Limited?  The dealer wants to charge me $110.00!

Remove the glovebox (2 or three screws underneath, then partially open it and press the sides inward to release it).  Back behind there toward the left will be a verticle panel that you can remove to reach the filters.  There are two, placed one upon the other.

remove, throw away and do not replace , for better heat, defrost, and a/c operation lol

I just recieved the cabin air filter and the instructions seem to be serious.  It states to isolate the battery ground cable (black negtive one and disconnect?), driver side, remove the air bag fuse, disconnect the air bag contact coil, in the glove compartment, disconnect the yellow passenger air bag module electricial connector.  

Wow, is this serious or what?  Is this why they want to charge $110.00 for parts and labor?  Is there a risk of me activating or doing something wrong with the air bag system?

I'm a little nervous about this do-it-yourself job?

what the hell? its as safe and simple as this........

pull down glove box door (press in sides once open and it will pull out and hang down further)


right around the middle behind the glove box door you Will see a 3/4 inch wide plastic strip with a little clip on either end, remove that plastic strip, remove old filters, install new ones.

its kind of a funny system, the filters sit one on top of another, but you will figure that out.

i wasn't kidding when i said to remove the filters all together, my heater and ac works WAY better without them.

This is just Suzuki covering their butts because you  are working in the general area of the airbags.  If you that freaked about it just pull the fuse wait 5 min. for the cap to lose it jucie and do the rest. Or as I would, go with Sir Lacne and not mess with any yellow wrapped wire looms and you will fine.

OK, I feel more comfortable about doing it.. .  Haha.  I'll let you know how it goes.  I know, I'm so not a techi..hehe. 

Ok, I tried at least 4 times, being today, Feb 14, was the last time I would try to remove the old cabin air filters and replace them with the new ones I had bought.  Damn, I figured about the clips and finally got the bottom unattached, then tried hard for the top and finally, walah!  Got it opened!  But the plastic vertical strip is back on, but not clipped on like it was; too damn hard, everything's in place though.  Now, when I take my truck back for service in March, I can tell them to remove the service recommendation for the $110.00 cabin air filter replacement!
