Shifting problem...
« on: October 10, 2009, 03:46:05 PM »
I've got a shifting problem with the Sammi. It has a 1996 tracker engine and auto tranny in it. While driving at about 35-45 mph and accelerating slowly, when it should down shift it just slips in "nuetral". If I accelerate hard it will downshift ok. this is the only time it is slipping, any ideas?

The fluid level is good and doesn't seem to be dirty, I am wondering if it could be a vacuum leak???
Or should I start shoppin for a new tranny?

Hate to be an ass, its just an opinion, ditch the auto, they are junk, VERY FEW autos are strong enough to be reliable under off road conditions.

But if I had to guess, Id say its prob just time for a rebuild or replace.  You might be able to squeek alittle time out of it with "slip treatments" and certain ATF's that are made for trannys that are slipping, but your gonna have to be easy on it.

Other than that, Im not sure if there is some kind of a kickdown mechanism that might be out of whack????

OK, after looking into it further, drive is slipping. L1 and L2 are fine, guess I'm shopping for a tranny. I'll probably go with another auto since it will be easier to do a swap than put the clutch pedal and all back in.

I bought the sammi with the drivetrain in it so I don't have the parts that came out.
Didn't build it, just doin the cleanup work

Just wondering, if this has the tracker engine, tranny and transfer case it should be the 4x4 tranny correct? The reason I ask is I have read that a the 2wd trannys are used in the sammis. I just don't know the application they are used in

The Sammy has a different transmission set up altogether, it uses a divorced t-case wheras the Track/Kick has the t-case built onto the back of the gearbox. AFAIK there were no auto Sammys.
