OME springs or Grand Vitara Springs?
« on: October 10, 2009, 05:44:39 PM »
I've seen a few people say they got a good amount of lift by using GV springs on their track kicks.  I want to do the same lift as this this guy did
http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=444978

I have a 2-door 95 trackkick.  I currently have strut spacers, and Jeff's coil spacers, I have the longer Rear shocks (Crown Vics).
I need to buy springs and struts.
The question is if i buy OME struts...will i need the OME springs or could i still pull off a 3 inch lift with the GV springs.  Are GV springs about the same size lift as the OME springs are on our trucks?

I love my OME springs.  The ride is great compared to the Calmini springs I  had.  I would say it is money well spent.

I run stock GV springs on the front end of my Tracker with 1" wheel spacers.  I picked up about 2" of lift over the stock front springs and a softer ride then the spacers.

It looks like he is actually using the OME GV front springs.  On BRD HNTR's rig we actually picked up the XL7 front OME springs.  With the modification he made to his lower spring pad (linkage) they ended up being a bit to tall so we cut them down to the size we wanted.  Rides nice and smooth.

Ok, not to sound like a jekry jerkrod but i'm not asking if you like the springs...LOL

I'm curious if the factory stock GV springs will lift a 1st gen sidekick like the OME ones.  People always say GV springs can give like 2 inches of lift.  And the OME springs can do that too.  So are they the same basically?  Because with GV springs and Jeffs coil spacers it could be the best way to achive 3 inches without buying super expensive OME springs.

My idea is
long shocks (I have Crown Vic ones)
A set of 4-door Grand Vitara Springs
Coil spring spacer lift
and OME front struts.

Should that be good for 3 inches of lift????
Drone is this basically your lift, only without the spacers?

The GV springs should give you close to the same amount of lift as 2 door OME lift springs.  The difference between the two is the weight of the springs, the GV springs are going to be a bit stiffer as they are made for a heavier vehicle.  Also, the GV springs do not work in the rear.  One end of the springs is smaller then on the Tracker/Sidekick.

A bit of caution, 2" is about the most lift you can go before you need to start looking at dropping your front diff.  With about a 1 3/4" strut spacer in my CV's look to be at their limit at full droop.

To start out I would try a 2" spacers in the rear with longer shocks and GV springs in the front.  If you have access to a shop and some welding skills I would cut the bottom pad and raise it for a better spring angle and a bit more height, as BRD HNTR did at http://www.zukiworld.com/forum/index.php/topic,22395.msg190099.html#msg190099

That should bring you up to level, from there look at a diff drop or spacers as necessary.
