Lockright lockers (how do they work?) >Help<
« on: October 13, 2009, 09:36:02 PM »
okay I'm thinking of getting lock right lockers
for now since i don't think in the next long time I'm going to
be going extreme off-road and from what i have read they
are fairly decent in quality.
but how do they work like i understand rear lockers
but how do the front lockers lock? and how dose it know when to
lock is it just like a limited slip setup? or is it full locking
like Arb's air lockers?

Dennis.

Lockrights are locked under most conditions, what causes them to unlock is one tire spinning faster than the drivetrain is turning the other tire. so if you are turning the outside wheel will unlock. This is different from an open diff. An open diff the inside tire will slow down and the vehicle will be driven around the corner by the outer wheel. The Lockright drives through the turn using the inner wheel. This changes the way the vehicle tracks in a turn, but you will get used to it quickly.

I know some go with front lockers only so that in normal 2wd driving the locker isn't used.

Here is a pretty good discussion going over the differences and pros-cons of each of the different locker options:

just put one in the rear and see if you like it. It will prob. work just fine and you wont need one for the front.
