Hard starting
« on: August 01, 2004, 04:00:17 AM »
Ever since i ran into the trouble with my kick not running right, it has been starting really hard. When I got my car running again it was because I had to fix the ignition timing. Could it be that the timing belt jumped and then set my ignition timing off? I don't know what woudl be causing this. Any help is appreciated.

How many miles on the old belt??
have you looked at it to see if there
are teeth missing ??
If you need to change it from mileage
use, it would be a good idea before you
make yourself crazy trying to figure it out

You did make sure the cam and crank
were put back into time didn't you ??

Did you also check the distributor for
the proper position and timing too ??

Describe the hard start you are getting.
do you have to push the throttle to get
it to start or is there a ping/knock sound
as you are trying to turn it over ?

It was in time as it was before the tensioner went to hell. It starts hard, I will make a movie or something of it starting and see if anyone can host it for me so you can hear it, I have to give it gas cause it lugs at first when it fires then it runs fine.

That sounds like retarded timing,
check the timing and set to 10-12
Degrees BTDC, that should help
