Jerrys can
« on: July 27, 2004, 03:47:30 PM »
I decided it was time to carry a little X-tra gas, being when your off-raod your milage seems to go down a little. ;D
The bracket as been modified to cary a small can or a big can (short trip or long trip)

The bracket is bolted to the swing a-way bumper, It blocks the rear plate but I'll think of something one day ;D

small can- 2.5 gal - Short trips.

Big can - 5gal - longer trips

My license plate may go down onto the bumper with a little light (just to stay legal ;D)

Thanks Explosivo ;D

I found the big jerry-can at an Auto parts store for 28 bucks  :P
It was cheaper than most off-raod shops, 37 bucks. :o

My little bro rebuilt poart of the can holder to hold a square 2.5 gal can. Just incase I don't need the added weight of a 45lb (5gal) can.
8lbs a gal for water and I'm sure gas wieghs alittle more ???

Bottom Two of the bolt holes are Taped into the arm and the top two may-be spot welded to the top and bolted to the can bracket.

Actually, gasoline weighs a little less than water, about 7 lbs per gallon.  Still makes for a heavy 35 lbs plus the can...

I'm sure there will be a little more sag with a full 5 gal can on the back ;D Im still not sure if the bracket can take the full wieght (5gal) with out more support under it. Thats also on my to-do list ;D
Probly if I swing it open, I'll take the 5gal can off first.

I got mine from the Army HQ (surplus supplies) for $25.00 new. The tie down strap was missing so he let me have it at discount. I could have bought an old used od green for $15 but it was too rusty.

I think for now I'll tape the plate to the can and stick a flashlite on it ;D

;D A friend of mine wire tied his inside the rim of his spare on his Jeep. He had to trim down the edges a little for it to fit though.
