Top 5 things to do to a Trackick?
« on: November 22, 2009, 09:04:08 AM »
What are your thoughts on the top 5 things to do to a Trackick without breaking the bank?

Here are some of my suggestions (Keep in mind that I have not been at it long)

Top 3 (I have these so far)

1 - Suspension lift
2 - Larger tires
3 - Bumper and winch

electric fan, body lift, air intake, exhaust, strut tower brace, stereo, triming fenders, ..................................

Add a rear locker, best upgrade for offroad

weld the rear, trim the fenders a little and add some 30" aggressive tires and you'll be amased and other than  the tires everything else is almost free. Add a front locker and then it'll turn into a tank.

offset wheel is a good choise(no more rubbing to the frame)
hooks front and rear
snorkel(home made if you whant and it s cheap to do or a real one if you have the $$$)
good batterie(kind of optima red top or yellow top...)

reenforce the front diff too is a good mod to do(ad a second gosset to the third member an reenforce the mounting point on the diff.
two most important things for me :first wheeling as much possible and the second  fly fishing ho! live is goood.

What's the purpose of installing an electrical fan over what we already have?  I missed that part.

You can shut if off with a manual switch on the dash when going thru water to prevent the fan from getting sucked into the rad.

Also not sure how much, if any difference, but it is one less thing that the engine has to turn........??

I agree with the electric fan....another added bonus is when water crossing the clutch fan will throw water all over the place under the hood. One click of the switch and the fan is off.

Hmm...  I've had the Gnewt in the creek up to the hood, and had no problems.  The viscous coupler on the fan seemed to work just fine.

I would definitely NOT weld the rear.  When I've got my rear locker on, turning becomes VERY challenging on rock, so as soon as I've cleared the obstacle that requires the lockers, I'm turning them off.  If you're wheeling in soft dirt, this may not be so noticable.

Regearing will give you a big plus.  I've regeared my diffs to 5.83 when I put in my ARB's, but I feel the greatest benefit was when I upgraded my transfer case to the 4.24:1 low range gears.  Oh, and the Safari Snorkel saved the engine, when I put it in the creek, up to the hood.  The stock air intake is behind the driver's side headlight.

Twin sticks and a rear spool is at the top of my list.
