95 Geo 2dr with v6 swap
« on: November 30, 2009, 09:12:01 PM »
so I sold the 93 4dr DD and happened to look in cl and saw this:

95 Geo Tracker V6 PROJECT CAR convertible automatic
I have 95 Geo tracker motor v6 runs driven okay , nice convertible automatic,CD,kenwood good system ,
Oregon plates 2011,the bad need from body parts , runs drive good and not liking weather
nice big tires and wheels

It definitely needs some work. seance I sold my DD and never touched it I am thinking I need to go sas with 35's or something and my mystery GM v6 and 4 speed should power it nicely. Before I get into that I want to get some of the problems fixed. The first problem is getting the transformer stickers off the doors and hood. It also shifts very strange from neutral into gear it BANGS in sometimes more than other times and it also almost goes into neutral between shifts. It is not so bad sense it is winter, but when the summer rolls around it will start over heating I am sure. driving around in the city it gets up to 230 degrees, but it does cool down once you get on the freeway. I know it my sidekick the heater fan had a 4 position switch, but on this one it just slide with no clicks. It also only works on the high position. I also need to figure out what model the motor and transmition are I do know they are GM. I am also trying to come up with a name for it. the only names I have came up with are whiplash ( because of the jerking in the trans) or Transformer (because of the stickers)

any questions comments or suggestions would be great

Use a hairdryer with the highest setting (like 1500 watts) to remove the stickers. The pressing issue is what's up with your tranny. I would suggest you get that looked at ASAP before you grenade that tranny or cause any motor damage.

Did you check for the block id numbers back by the distributor on that V6 as we talked about on Monday?

I would still suggest getting the transmission flushed and a new filter put in, see if that fixes the problem with the hard shifting.

When you sold the 4dr did you sell the new engine with it or did you just decide it wasn't worth the trouble?

I haven't actually had the time to look at it in the light now that it gets dark so early. I pulled out of the driveway and down the road and start hearing a clanking grinding noise, so I go back to the driveway to look at it. the drive wine is sitting on one the Cross members. it must have a u joint or a bearing going out. I am going to go out there in a couple of minutes with a flash light and a jack and see whats wrong. I still have the kick that I bought your motor for.I had three 4 door kicks and got rid of one. the other one is waiting for your motor, and the third needs a headgasket and valve job. That is the big reason for getting this 95 Geo. I am in the process of taking a part the throttle body. just wondering if I mess up the gaskets if I can get new ones. as for the tranny, I think it might have some aftermarket shiftkit that is messed up too.

the bolts came out of the cross member that the tail of the tranny mounts to, so the driveline is the only thing holding up the tail of the tranny. ;D :o

tightened up one bolt and barowed a bolt from my other kick and that will get it down the street until I make a better cross member.

I got it for less than 1300, but by the time a get the kinks out I will have well over 1300. I also noticed there is no antifreeze in it, so I will have to do that tonight, especially sense everything was froze thismorning.

the kick down cable had to much slack in it, so I tightened it and all my tranny problems went away. I am still going to get a filter and change the fluid. The best part is the local trans. shop was doing free trans. checks, so I decided to get it checked out (this was when it was doing wiered things) and they said it was completly shot and needed to be rebuilt. and guess what they wanted to charge. $3500 I definatly am not going to them to my work done in the future.

Congrats on fixing the problem.  How does it handle with that GM V6 up front?  Did you ever find out what block it was?  4.3 or a 2.8 or something else?

it is not the 4.3 it has to be a 2.8 or the updated 2.8 wich is a 3.1 I think.

I don't know if this is against forum rules, ::).....but I believe when a customer gets shanked or even the opposite, gets a job well done, that these acts should be publicized. Business owners should be called out on their dishonesty or applauded for their best efforts. Let the most powerful advertizing ring out on the internet...WORD OF MOUTH!     So, where was this tranny shop?
