Hi all,

My 1989 Tracker 1.6l 8v with K&N airfilter, the engine is little bit weak. After changing 31x10.5x15 tires, it seem like loss much power. I am going to rebuilt the engine anyway, or maybe change to an Escudo 1.6 16v engine, or a bigger Toyota engine? Which is the best way? If I rebuilt my engine or just change an Escudo 1.6 16v engine, what should I do with the differential or the tranfercase to have the best gear ratio? My Tracker is used for both, daily use and offroad mud. Thanks for viewing and advice!!!!!!!

I assume yours is a manual trans? If it was the auto trans you could swap diffs from a manual and that would gear you almost perfectly. Your other option is looking for a set of 5.63's, rare but available. Even more rare are the 5.83's that used to be offered by Calmini. No longer available, but once in a blue moon a set comes up for sale. I believe skyhighranger has a set of 5.63's for sale here in the classifieds. Re gearing is your best option. Other than that, you could go Turbo or swap in a v6.

what do you think about a twin t-case set up?

i have a 1992 kick with 34 tsl 5.12 in the diff auto tranny,4.24t-case and a twin t-case made out of a suzuki lj80 and let me tell you that is amasing..

only the t-case from a lj80 will give you 1.56:1 of gear instead of 1:1 it can help to gain speed and you will double de t-case because de lj80 low is 2.57:1 instead of 1:2 for the kick.

any sammy t case will give you high range reduction, not just the rare lj80 case.

you can also buy the ott adapter to bolt one up to your kick, so you will get a dual t case set up with high range reduction. problem solved

I forgot about the Trail Tough Bolt in reduction unit, it too will will work for you.

my next up grade..........

there was a guy in my area that did this, the entire toy running gear in his kick, he used a 22re,trans t-case and axles. i went for a ride in it and it drove real well. its pretty straight forward, sammy guys do it all the time, its the same principle, it all depends on YOUR skill level and access to tools.

but yes, this will solve your gearing problems, and give you access to all the aftermarket suport that a toyota guy has for gears,lockers exc....
