Clutch choice, and shimmy
« on: December 13, 2009, 01:08:04 PM »
My 88 Samurai needs a new clutch. It is bone stock. After market or OEM? any thoughts. I also have a shimmy at around 40 MPH. It did this quite a while ago and, I changed tires and wheels and it stopped but, now is back. A friend told me that on jeeps, they reverse the shackles and it makes them have less of these types of problems. Any thoughts?

shimmy problems? the most looked over item on a samurai is the spring bushings.. the origionals are made of rubber. over time the holes become slotted, this lets the springs become loose and float arond. i use energy suspension poly bushings they tighten up the old samurais..

You will also want to check the tie rod ends, they can get sloppy with age and cause the death wobble.

Could also be wheel bearing or king pins.
