upgrade lug bolts?
« on: December 24, 2009, 06:18:03 PM »
Mine need replaced due to corrosion.  Anyone know if I can get longer or stronger bolts?  Are they hard to change out on an 00 Tracker?  I have some heavy aftermarket wheels installed and would feel alot better if I knew I a good hold on em'.  Thank you

ive been running 33's on my truck for about a year now, and have never had a problem, or any of my other zukes for that matter with 33's and bigger, i dont think u will have an issue with them, and i dont think i have ever heard of an aftermarket HD  or  "arp" stud replacement for them.

a bit of rust on lug nuts is normal, i wouldn't worry about "corrosion" dont throw $$$ away for no reason.....

ps: post a pic if you want and we will have a look.

Ok, Thank you, I will just replace the rear lug that rusted away making it too short for the lug nut to grab.  I can get a stock bolt from autozone for a couple bucks.

it rusted away? or did it break from over tightenting or a crossthread perhaps?

also, how thick are your rims? (how much thread do you have sticking out after your put your rim on?

when I removed the stock lug nut after buying it, the lug nut was full of "powdered" rust and the end 1/4" or so seemed to have rotted off.  I am not certain how thick my custom rims are but I would say it is a noticable amount thicker, so the nuts don't grab as much of the bolt thread as stock.  I wonder if any of the bolt on spacers have longer bolts??  I am thinking about adding spacers anyhow.

Just sounds like a fluke poorly made lug(or abused by a tire shop) replace it with stock but keep an eye on them if any other exhibit this behavior come back here and tell the board...y
