lock right locker
« on: January 29, 2010, 04:43:24 AM »
Hello all,

I'm thinking to get a lock rightlocker for my rear axle of my vitara. (sidekick) Does any one have experience with this locker. For example driving capabilities and is it difficult to install?

i had difficulty lifting the 3rd member back in. it's unbalanced and unwieldy. i did it by myself on my back in the driveway.
Acks faq has a good description of the locker install procedures(this was helpful!).
good time to replace the axle seals, and you need to look at the rear brakes as you do this project.
time and money well spent(my experience).
i don't drive it daily(fishing rig), but it's predictable on the road.
'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.
suzi the psychic gets me fishing.

I personally went with a mini spool in rear due to some driving issues my friends had with the lockers.  But long as it isnt a DD I would go with a locker.  But I love my mini spool also.

You'll hear a clicking sound in tight low-speed turns as the outer wheel overruns the the inner.  It's normal.
The most obvious behavior is the rear torque-steer as you get on and off the throttle in a turn. You'll learn not to do this pretty quickly. Just set up for the turn in advance and keep the throttle applied lightly through the entire turn.
Every once in a rare while on asphalt, you may get a loud bang from the rear axle, as uneven axle torque builds up and then suddenly releases.  With small tires this is generally not a problem, but it is LOUD and can be disconcerting first few times.
