Timing these is a PAIN

Last night I set the timing on my 92 Tracker. I had done the distributor o-ring swap and wanted to make sure the timing was okay. WHAT A PAIN IN THE REAR. Could they make the timing notch on the pulley any harder to see? The mark is pretty well covered by the timing index marks so you can't see it when the light is on it. I ended up putting some paint where the mark is but on the opposite side of the pulley. I also put some paint at the 10 degree point on the index so I could see it better. I've only timed probably 5 other vehicles but this one was the worst between the cramped access to the marks and not being able to see the mark. At least the distributor was easy to get to.

Ya when I first did my first samurai it took me 3-4 times to get it right. A book I had had 3 different setups and none of them where correct, so I had to check online and finally got it right.
Now when I do them on my last few rigs its easy.... but I remember being very crabby... lol

Yep, a dab of paint on the timing mark on the pulley and the timing marks on the belt cover makes things a lot easier to see. Chalk also works, if you don't have paint....but it isn't quite as permanent.
