ok i have been trying to talk my mom into leting me buy this sammy down the street. so i can build my own trail rig. but she thinks that there just pices of junk and there not worth it. she dosent think it will be reliable and she thinks there dangerous to drive in but she dosent understand it's going to be my trail rig. so what i am asking is will the samauri be good for driving and stuf. and will it be reliable. plese respond because im going to have my mom read this so i can prove her wrong. ;D

Reliability, I couldn't tell ya as I've had no experience with Samurais.

As far as the dangerous to drive part goes... if you search around here, there were some threads a few days ago about the Consumer Union vs. Suzuki legal battle, where the CU made false or exagerated claims about the Samurai being easy to roll over, which is NOT true.

By all means, have her surf this entire site.

If it is a piece of junk when you buy it, you will learn how to fix it and make it reliable.  It is a productive endeavor, one which you will learn from and be rewarded by.

As far as dangerous, I totally disagree. I've owned two since 1986, put many, many miles on both and never had a problem.  It is like anything else you could drive or buy used...disrespect the machine or its operation and bad things WILL happen. I take my 12 year old daughter wheeling w/ me. We drive to and from the parks and if I even sniffed an ounce of danger, she wouldn't be anywhere near it.

Reliability, I couldn't tell ya as I've had no experience with Samurais(justed copyed explosivo ;D)

but i have seen many  and i have never heard anyone sat anything really bad about them.  and upgraded parts are cheap!  i almost wish i would have got a sammy insted of my tracker.  it would have been alot easyer to build, figgering on i'm only 16 and have vary shallow pockets ;D.

Ditto, my tracker was my first car(or truck) and i didn't know how to change oil before i started 3 years ago, now i can rebuild a whole engine by my self,  even if you buy it for 50 bucks(i have no clue what the guy wants for the one you want) and you have to dump money into it,  if you learn how to do stuff your self, insted of sending it to sombody else to get fixed, you will save alot of cash and learn to be responsible, and get some self respect(thats what alot of kids need)




and you might even pick up a few chicks along the way. :-X ;D :-X

The Suzuki Samurai, like all products made by Suzuki are VERY reliable.  With proper maintenance and care, the Samurai will provide you with years of pure driving enjoyment.  It is a safe and fun to drive vehicle.  I have spoken to many Samurai owners over the years and all have said it is one of the best trucks they have ever driven.  One guy even told me that it is the BEST off road rig ever made.

Tell your mom not to fret.  I have the 7 video clips from the Suzuki v. Consumers Union to prove anyone just how safe the Samurai is.  If you want them, I can transfer them to via MSN Messenger.  My contact is shotbaker1946|removethispart|@hotmail.com

I would rather drive a Sammy than what ever she is driving.

Suzuki’s are damn reliable. They will make it from point A to point B through hell or high water. The engines are very simple to work on, and they keep on ticking no matter what you put them through.

I wouldn’t hesitate to drive across Canada in my Tracker tomorrow.

Take this winter for instance.  The Island got nailed with 3ft of snow in like 2 days.  I was one of the only vehicles on the highway driving to the city north of my place. I had to drive family members around because their cars / trucks were hopeless in the sticky wet snow.

I’m a Zuker for life.  ;D

The reason I own a Samurai is because it is reliable.  Working on one or restoring a Samurai is great education into auto mechanics.  I don't say my Sammy is the best thing ever made for the trails, but it definetly holds it own and it can take a lot of punishment.  Tell your Moms that she won't have to worry about too many speeding tickets either.

All suzukis are reliable. Nuff said. Ive owned 3 samurais and one track kick. I loved them all and i will miss the sport. :'( My toyota sould be a preatty good rig but. I say tell your mom that this an entire sport/ hobby of extremly nice and knoledgeable people that drive these things and swear by them.

That's what I have to say about rolling =/

I hear everytime I take out my samurai people that tell me that it's going to roll and all this... Funny thing is, most of them have never even seen one in person, much less ridden in one, nor driven one.

My Samurai sits 5" taller than stock w/ stock wheels, then I added some 31's so it sits a little taller... I hacked the fenders to save on some height vs weight issues, but I have never felt like it was going to tip because of the vehicle (because of driving up things that a 31"-clad vehicle shouldn't be going up, yes.... but because of the vehicle, no).

As far as reliability, I can't attest much, having only owned mine for about 6 months... However, I can say that the $40 of gas money I've spent, and the $0 for maintenance I've spent isn't half bad.

I haven't seen such an enthusastic crowd since I was on the Corvair board.  ;D

Those are some damning articles... and quite true. The Sammy, when driven safely, is stable. However, when it goes up on 2, it's probably gonna go over. (Also avoid a full-deflate flat tire. Those will kill a *lot* of cars, including the Sammy.)

The only Sammy's we picked off their sides had struck a curb or slid onto the shoulder of the road.

Hers my 2 cents.
I was a TowTruck driver for 7yrs.
I can count (told you so) on one hand (maybe three)how many Suzukis I've towed and non of them were because of a roll-over.
Pretty much a timing belt problem.
So change them when you should ;D
