tsl sx versus tsl radial?
« on: February 19, 2010, 07:51:09 AM »
Greeting to all from Montreal Canada!!
thanks Eric for your help.
Here's my question,I will be buying 4 tls this comming summer and wondering witch of the two,tsl sx 29 10.50 15
or tsl radial 30 10.50 15 I can not go bigger.tires will be used 90% offroad 10% road,i.e driving to the trails.
now the sx 29in their max load 1495lbs and they weigh 40 lbs///the radials 29.8in max load 2070lbs they weigh 49lbs!!
Does any one drive a 4 door kick with tsl sx and how is the ride performance offroad i.e will they flex?
If I look at their max loads ratings,I wonder if even the radials will be stiff.
Ah yes they will be mounted on 15 by 8 steel krawler wheels.

Radial tires will flex better than bias tires, and with the
light weight of these vehicles, that might be the best
for you, Mike Hagen likes his radials, when he was running
them.

I run the LTB Bias tires, like them, run low pressures and still
not much flex, but I hear you run them flat and warm up the side
walls they will flex better when aired up

i have Sx's on my samurai the performance is mush better then the tsl radial but overall roadabilty seems to go down the drain! for some reason i find it easier to balance a radial then a bias ply, i work in a tire shop and have to deal with it everyday. from what i've herd tho is that if you can get a bial ply to balance out, your golden.....it will wear less then the radial on the road and fling mud a little better then the radial as well!, but what it comes down to is price.....everything else is so close in comparison either way you go is a good choice....depends on what you want to spend!

Hi!guys, thanks for your reply,I value your opinions.
I know very well the difference between radial and bias ply,I fix cars for a living and do alignments as well :D
Basically my question was,are 29 inch tsl sx all that stiff ,if mounted on a 4 door kick and aired down to maybe 7-10psi.
I all ready have all terrains for daily driving, the tsl's would only be installed when driving to and in offroad trail and back to
all terrains when getting back home.I am considering installing staun beadlocks with the sx.maybe. ???
Are the radials too heavy (50 pounds) for a kick? :-\
Thanks again to all of you,I've been reading on ZW for quite a while an learned alot,i just had to comeon and join.
I should post a few pis on my rig soon.

The taller the sidewall the more flex you will get out of the tire, look at load rating too. B range has a very soft sidewall with good flex, C range a tad stiffer the most common, D range is like concrete sidewalls!

with a 29inch tire aired down you might as well drive a subaru in the trails, ground clearance is something to consider.  if room is short buy a taller narrower tire so you can get some flex and still keep a bit of air under you.
