LED tail lights for stock housings?

LED tail lights for stock housings?

how much work do those of you who do lots of modding these things think it'd be to mod the samurai stock tail lights to have LED boards inside in place of the stock bulbs?     

I'm thinking about doing this, if I can pick up another set of tail lights to work with,  and simply set up the tail lights, turn signals and reverse lghts with an LED board in each one.   

anyone have some input on how much hell I'm gonna go through if I attempt this?

here is what I did.  I took the stock lights out of the bumper and cut out a  piece of aluminum that will fit back inside the housing.  then punched out the holes for sealed tails and turns in the aluminum piece.    used the same screw holes to put the plate back into the stock bumper.  ended up looking real clean and fit perfect.  used round lights for the turns and oblong ones for the tail and stop.   remember if u put led lights in you will need to put a resistor in otherwise the flasher will flash fast.  20 watt  8 om is what I used.  radio shack  5 bucks for 2

The resistor is totally unnecessary,   I always do this sort of thing with a new flasher relay.   the factory one is a load sensing unit, but an electronic unit is not, so it wont flash all wonky with leds.

last electronic one I bought  called a no load flasher was 54 bucks  where do u get the cheap ones?

I've always gone to autozone.  they're electronic flashers, and usually right around $10-12

The Tridon EP34 will work with LEDs with a slight mod.  See the bottom of the first page of the thread for the mod.

Resistors BAD!


And yes, I found this by doing a search for led at Ack's FAQ...

I simply hate resistors because I'm not good at figuring out the right one for the job,  but the plug n play flasher relay, will do the exact same job much easier.
