Rear Axle Noise

I have a 88 samurai  with a 4:86 3rd member on it! it was working great tell now it makes clucking noise when i start out from 1st  & reverse I check the u joints there fine, any suggestions? Please!

How much slop is there if you disconnect the drive shaft and try moving the rear end by hand?

sounds to me like theres a little too much freeplay in your gears.  I'd check the amount in there, and compare with what it should be according to the service specs, adjust as needed if possible.

No! they never got touch  the 3rd member came off a tracker! could it be the spidergears there stock?

spider gears don't move unless you are turing so that one tire would have to spin faster or slower than the other. sounds like either bad gearlash or possibly a pinion bearing to me. pinion bearing can sound the same as a bad u-joint but you would definately hear some hum or grinding during normal driving. is you truck lifted.

Yes it is 5 inch left from Calmini with 32 1150x15 tires

Well guys I took it apart it was the spider gears that where broken! I was thinking about minispool or should i get locker so one just told me! go with limited lockers

i welded the spider gears in my tracker.... essentially a mini spool i run 31's and about 70% street driven. works for me. i would've done a mini spool but welding them up myself was cheaper! lockers are great just too pricey and unpredictable. spools and mini spools are VERY predictable street or woods driven.

ive welded many diffs in different trucks and found the problems usually come when you weld the gears together or to the case . the last 15 or 20 ive done ive filled between the teeth so it has a small amount of play between spiders and side gears .
ive done this 3/4 ton trucks on 42's that break u joints and axles and gears hold up fine.
