MSD Blaster 2 Questions
« on: July 13, 2004, 10:41:28 AM »
Alrighty, so I bought the Blaster 2 coil today, and according to the instructions, when installing the coil with the stock ignition, I need a 0.8Ohm balast resistor wired inline on the positive lead. So I head back into the parts store, and ask them if they have one. However, all they had were 1.7Ohm resistors, so I didn't bother buying one right there.

Now I remember someone on here saying that the installation of a Blaster 2 coil on a Trackick is really straightforward, just connect the positive and negative wires and you're all set. Is that true? Did you use a ballast resistor?

Hep, hep :(

 You don't need the resistor.

Sorry, stomper... I have an awful memory :)

I don't see any +/- markings on the stock coil... it has 2 wires going into it... one brown one black/white. Which is positive and which is negative? Is there any way I can test to see? Is it 12v or 110v at that point?

Got it hooked up tonight... simpler than I thought, and no underhood fires (which is a plus in this case ;D).

It does seem to have a bit more power than it did, but I also installed it on a truck that is having some backfiring problems (I left some rubber on the pavement, something I haven't been able to do since I stuck the 33's on it :)).

Unfortunately, it didn't completely fix the backfiring problem, but it does run much smoother, and backfires only at much higher RPM's (around 4000-4500) than before. It's now drivable, but it bugs the piss that it still backfires .

Yo explosivo. when you say back fire it only does it when you let off the gas right? becouse that is normle when you have low back presure. Dude the sammy does the same thing.

No... I remember the little pops I had when letting off the throttle when I had the exhaust cut off at the cat... this is completely different (plus now I welded a 3' piece of 1 7/8" exhaust tube onto the cat to increase backpreasure). It's not that little *sputter* *sputter* *phoop* ... it's more of a *chug* *chug* chug* *kerPOOOOOWWW!* :-/
