hydraulic clutch for the samurai?

I'm just curious on this one, since I really dont like the cable clutch, its just way too vague feeling to me in general.   can I convert it to hydraulic clutch?

I have never heard of anyone converting the clutch setup before, but if your good with fab work I think a Toyota Clutch Master Cylinder and Slave Cylinder might work ok just have to fab up all of the brackets for it Look at a few of these pictures and see what you think

WOW.  those actually put the idea much more in my reach.   

I'm figuring an external slave pushing the stock actuator rod perhaps would work quite well.  the basic concept in my head is quite simple, I just have to figure out how to best implement it.

LOL that was kinda what popped into my head too  :laugh:  good luck if you do it and let us all know if it works and take pictures you may be onto the newest Zuk upgrade parts

I really do need a junk sammy to experiment with this stuff on.   this idea really is a good upgrade plan to me.  no more annoying cables breaking on the road, or any of that BS.    if I ever figure out how to make one, I'm thinking I'll start offering it as an upgrade kit for the zuki community.

Really?  Do you really have that many problems with the samurai clutch cable to warrant trying to convert to a hydro clutch?
Lets see.....first of all, you have to figure out how to convert to a hydro clutch, then if the slave cylinder quits working....you're screwed, until you swap on another one, refill with fluid, and bleed it out.  If the samurai clutch cable fails, you swap on the $20 one that you carry for a spare, adjust it with a couple of wrenches and you are good to go.
Seems like a no-brainer to me.

In my experience cable clutches require more maintenance than hydraulic ones - BUT - I've never found either one sufficient aggravation that I would want to change it.

This is also the first time I'm hearing someone describe a cable clutch as having a "vague" feeling - so I'll ask - what does that mean?  Vague = imprecise?  Perhaps the engagement point seems to vary randomly?  One time it's near the floor and the next, higher up?

If that's an accurate description of your problem - forget about the hydraulic clutch and just service the linkage on the one you have - clean and lube the pivot points, replace any worn parts and use a new cable - it's the cable that causes the problem most of the time, you can in some cases temporarily fix it by lubricating it - peel back the rubber boot and squirt some light oil in between the cable and the outer jacket and then work the cable back & forth - keep on doing this until you get the oil coming out the other end.

Please note - this is not a long term fix - the actual problem is that the cable has worn through the teflon sheath and is now rubbing on the inside of the jacket.

my big problem is that after having owned motocycles with both, as well as more than a few pickups,  the cable just doesnt work right for me.    I've replaced the cable, put the old one back just to see if I'm on crack, and I'm not, it still has a notchy feeling at the friction point, which is quite vague,  and the clutch just seems really easy to dump, and near impossible to slip to get moving. 

I know what a clutch SHOULD feel like, and this cable BS just isnt it for me.

ok question have you done anything with the Clutch it's self? could something be wrong with it?

nope, its totally unmodified as far as I'm aware.   I'm toying with picking up a new flywheel and clutch just because I really dont know how many miles the one in it has on it.

Two things could be going on here, one is the outer sheath on the
cable begins to collapse when you push the clutch, giving little to
no feel and or no disengagement.

The second could be a 4 puck clutch that is designed to hook up
and not slip at all, that might be the no slip your having

I hadnt considered an aftermarket clutch as a possibility.   but if I've got two cables,  one old and one literally brand new,and BOTH give the same feel,  I dont think the cable is the issue anymore.     

I can get it to slip, but to do that, I have to really finesse the clutch a lot. its a big PITA if I'm just backing into my parking spot, or tryin to move 1 peachfuzz hair forward.

It's the disk then, my buddy put one of those in because the old stocker was
slipping, then he started  breaking CV halfshafts and axles (Track/Kick) and got
tired of that issue, so we put a 3 speed auto tranny in it, now he's a happy
wheeler, I know many don't like to wheel with an auto, not as much control,
but I beg to differ, I think the auto gives you more by not stalling your engine

 This is a VERY easy fix... Buy a new cable from a local Suzuki dealership (much better quality than most aftermarket cables I've found), and put a new clutch in it, making sure you thoroughly clean the entire inside of the bellhousing. When you install the new throwout bearing, make sure to hose the bearing snout it rides on with white lithium grease. It will free up the friction that is causing so much grief for you. Plain and simply you are fighting friction.
