94 to 96 16v motor swap
« on: March 24, 2010, 10:31:12 AM »
Will a 94 16v swap to a 96 without changing the computer? Do I only have to change the motor or is there anything else?

You have to change a few things:

  • Oil pump
  • The oil pan
  • Distributor
  • Intake
  • The cooling pipe that plugs in behind the water pump that requires a specific o-ring that is a paint to find unless you happen to have a hardware store local that stocks such things.

Depending on which one is in better condition you will want to swap the exhaust header as well, they tend to crack between the 3rd and 4th cylinder.  Might want to take this time to pick up an after-market one along with a new clutch, water pump, timing belt, distributor o-rings, front and rear main seals.

If I read this right, you want to put a 94 16V engine into a 96 16V or 8V? I thought the 96
years all had 16V engines? if this is so, you need to change nothing but the intake manifold
and sensors just to be sure they work with the new engine
