I used a sealed box facing forward in the vehicle with grills to keep the subs out of the seat when it was in the up position. I still had a little rattle :-/ So I pulled the pannels (side and back door) and stuck some dynomat strips to the sheet metal. I also put thin double sided insulator tape alont the edges where the panels contacted the metal. No more buzz ;D

I tried taking the plastic thingy off, all that did was allow more air into the tailgate and make the metal rattle and not the plastic. I haven't bothered dyamating anything yet cause all I have in there right now is a comp vr 12.

Ya ports suck. :P

If you knew anything about stereo's you would know that a properly tuned ported box would stomp on any sealed enclosure any day of the week.

thats not totaly true...if u want huge massive SPL numbers then a ported box id deffinantly the way to go..but unless a sub is specificly made to run SQ in a ported box ( most are not) then u are lossing sound quality(SQ) but running a ported

u can argue that all day long up and down left and right but that is the facts..i like ported boxs since i can get them to hit harder and i can do crazier things..but in all the installs i have done i have never once been able to get more SQ with a ported box....now theres always an exception...certain subs are designed to run massive massive SQ numbers in a ported box

Buy a bucket of that expanding foam they use for boats and fill your tail gate with it!

Then cut out the foam behind your speaker ports, so the magnets can fit.

There may be one draw back though.  If you don't have enough space behind the speaker for air to flow, it may effect your sound quality.

Just a thought.

I will argue all day about it, ports are built for one thing SPL. Less wattage required to burp the sub to x-max. IF you want sq you go with a sealed box and nothing bigger than a 12" sub. I"m going to school for stereo systems in the fall, I know what they are all about.

I'm all in agreement there.

As for you 92Sidekick4x4, I did a neat little trick to solve EVERY rattle in my rig (trust me, I'm anal about that stuff): First you go to the wreckers and find some cars with that thick lining that all cars have in them. Get like a ton (seriously, a ton...) and if its wet, just dry it out in the sun and then start stuffin' it everywhere! I have that stuff behind all my panels, all my doors and even under the original carpeting. Its a typical setup, but if you want to go extra baddass, you can stratigically install brass pegs (not the small stuff, the big ones) around the areas where you are pushing the most sound, typically bolted to the frame (where you probably have your 6x9s) and inside the rear door. If you have any questions just let me know. I have to get a digital cam to post some pics though...

steveo

i never though of this until now but.. should i let people smoke in my zuke? serious fire hazard hehe
