Secondary on Carburetor how to test?
« on: July 05, 2004, 09:37:00 PM »
I have a '87 Samurai. Can anyone tell me how much vaccum there should be going to the secondary diaphragm that opens the secondary throttle valve? I've hooked a tube up to the port that supplies vacuum from the carb but I can never feel vacuum at any RPM. I've unplugged the hoses from the diaphragm and I don't feel any difference when I drive my Samurai. So I'm assuming my secondary isn't opening up.

Here's how I ended up testing it. I checked the diaphragm, Vacuum Transmitting Valve and Vacuum Switching Valve and they were all good. To test the vacuum port on the carb I ran about 6 feet of vacuum tube out the vent cutout on the side of the hood and felt for vacuum while I drove the Samurai. There was vacuum at approximately 2000-2500 RPM. So I figure it must be okay. I guess I was expecting something a little more impressive when the secondary kicked in.
