need a cheap tire that looks cool
« on: April 29, 2010, 10:18:52 AM »
hey guys,
My samurai is need of some new tires. I (like everyone else) am on a fairly tight budget. My tires are 30"X9.50 r15 i would like to stick with this size because smaller looks goofy and larger sucks the power. my dad has 31's and his feels so slow on the freeway (not that samurais are ever described as fast) I have checked around at big O, and les schwab and they are both saying a set of four, mounted, balanced, disposal fee, etc. will be around $650 to $780. i forgot what tires they had said, but they were mud terrains. and yes. i know i can get all terrains cheaper than mud terrains, but i like the look of the mud terrains and that is what i currently have on as well.

so as far as the actual question: what is a good, inexpensive mud terrain? also if anyone has had, or has, the tires that you recommend, let me also know (if you can) on a scale from 1-10 how loud are they? i dont want a tire that is too loud, but if it is a good tire that is cheap, maybe, thank you guys i appreciate your time, effort, and opinions

I always liked the Cooper Discovery MT's and AT's... Look good, decent for highway noise, good tread life, and decent traction off road... A good inexpensive all around tire...

www.treadwright.com has retread muds that are inexpensive and work great.  I had a set on my Tracker and it did very well offroad.  They are loud though.  Probably 7 out of 10.  I think a set of them would be about $400 with mounting locally.

They have them out here in TN... So should be just about anywhere nationwide.
