8v A/C to 16v
« on: May 21, 2010, 03:46:58 PM »
Would the air conditioning components move easily from a vehicle with an 8 valve engine to one with a 16 valve?

The parts are the same, as is the block of those two engines.
does the 8V body have A/C installed or is this a retro fit into
a body that didn't come with?

I know there is a 1/4" difference in offset of the alternator and PS brackets between the 8V and 16V.  I would guess the AC brackets have different offsets too.  But as wild said, the blocks are the same, so they should still swap on fine.  You will just have to deal with the offset.  You could either find the other brackets, or swap the other lower timing belt pulley and water pump pulley, that way the belts will all line up.

The 16v car did not have air.  The 8v donor did.  It is a 4 door.  I decided against it after seeing pictures though because it was pretty rusty.
