i have an 87 sammy with a 1.6   16v swap i was wondering if i was to take .005  to .010 off the pressure plate mounting in the fly wheel could i get more clamp force?
87sami 32" bfg mt 6.5:1 w/reverse S shifter  1.6 16v sold and missed

I dont understand how that'll get you a beefier grip from your clutch.    stiffer clutch springs do that in motorcyles, and thats about the only way I understand its possible to get the grip you need.

have you looked at a samurai fly wheel?

If you want a stronger clutch I would look at the Centerforce clutches.  They should give you all the stopping power you need.

Reducing the "throw" of the pressure plate may have the opposite affect,
you may actually reduce the clamping force, this is especially true with
center force clutches because of the warped disk spring design, not so
much with the coil spring type plates, but the thickness of the clutch
plate has a lot to do with clamp forces.

If your clutch is starting to slip, get a center force plate and a good
disk, stay away from the feramic (sp) type disks as they do not slip
when you ride the clutch, this is bad for driveline parts

I agree.  I don't see how changing the throw will have any positive effect on the clutch pressure.  The springs in the clutch pressure plate are only so "strong", and will only push so hard on the clutch.  You would need stiffer springs, if you want more clamping pressure.
