PO400 PMO..........
« on: May 29, 2010, 10:38:09 PM »
??? Well, here we go again. Rough idle, and again this stutter. Replaced plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and so forth.
Haven't hit the 100,000 kilometer mark just yet. Had an X-90 over the other day and it idled like a Singer sewing machine.
Same 1.6 16 valve and almost double the kilometers. Another chap came over yesterday to admire these local built bumpers.
Again, 1.6 16 valve Singer and again, double the k'zs. Spent most of the day going over tune up stuff on this sweetee of mine. Can't seem to git it to sound like a Singer. Yeeees, eye did go thru the EGR system and even installed the header and 2" exhaust kit on it and did check the EGR passage through the rear engine port. Eye'm convinced that it's not the EGR system giving me grief. Hooked up the MT2500 and scanned a bunch of stuff. Some meant something to me and ......well other stuff was Martian. Cracked a cool one and stood back and listened. Runs like an old worn out carburator leaking fuel down the throat. Put on my stethascope and listened to the clack clack clack. Seems this beast has individual injectors and three of mine are sounding like a duck. Never heard this problem before on this site or any other. When I bought this rig, the maintenance was a tad light. Fuel filter was almost plugged. How does one isolate the injectors? Pull plugs like spark plug wires and see which one (s) are faulty or just go ahead and replace them all? Cost? Can they be rebuilt and who would do this? Sorry for the long winded journal, but it has been an uphill battle trying to resolve this frustration. I think I almost have it beat this time. There seems to be some good smarts on this site.
Thanks one and all for your patience and input.
Regards, Luke.

You can pull the injector wires one at a time without any issues.

Make sure the MAF is installed the right way, it makes a difference, and
also check the Intake air temp sensor and the Coolant temp sensor, and
check your fuel pressure.

Try a high dose of injector cleaner, Techron or what ever else you might
be able to get

Thanks Wild for the reply. Just found my hyrogliptics notes from when i was scanning. See if you can make anything out of this.
Test I.D. #2C   I.D.#03......1280    Min 1536.....Max.....Failed.
               #2D   #10 Engine Controller  Component I.D. #03...........14080  Min 14592....Max....Failed.

Can't make heads or tails of this on the MT2500.
Todays project is to find the 14MM X 1.5 X 1/8"NPT fitting to check the fuel pump pressure.
I did pour a can of high concentrate injector cleaner into a full fuel tank yesterday.
Will low fuel pump psi cause the injectors to rattle?
When I bought this little rig, the fuel filter was almost plugged. Stressed the pump maybe?
Some helpful hints or signs to watch when doing the psi checks on the fuel pump?
Thanks for the help/info.
Regards.

with the fuel filter information in mind,   the first thing I think is your injectors need professional cleaning because more than likely, that dirt eventually got PAST the filter and is in the actual injectors now.      I'm not POSITIVE, but its my initial suspicion.

the only other major thing I could think is as you suspect, possibly low fuel pressure, or poor volume.

I stressed my pump for a long time, (closed off the return) trying to get the most fuel pressure
to run the turbo better, and I have no issues with it now, so I don't think that is the problem.

Checked out the fuel pump. Passed on all grades. Blew the hose on the psi guage when I crimped the return line.
Pulled the spark plug wires off the distributor cap one at a time and number one and number three made the LEAST difference on
engine performance. These are the two noisiest clackers as well. Also checked ohm resistance on all four and they came up even at .014 ohms. Sooo, waste my time and have them cleaned only to have the two slightly cleaner and/or more noisey? Or just replace them all.
Almost certain eye have two dud injectors.
Opinions anyone????????   ???
