Does anybody sell a kit to put Toyota V6 rear-ends in a Samurai? How hard is this swap, and what does it consist of? Any hardcore fabrication besides driveshafts?

I allways thought Toyato rear ends were kinda fat .........
Ohh you mean the Axle      I suspect they are
wider than a Sammie, so unless you leave it the stock
width, you might need axle shafts too, just a thought

Toy V-6 rear axles are 6" wider than a sammy axle. The '79-'85's are 3" wider. These would make a better daily driver. As far as a bolt on kit to make 'em work, no. But it's really not hard. Properly done it's pricey (hi-steer ain't cheap) but it's a nice piece of mind on the trail. I don't worry about my axles at all. If you get the '79-'85 front, you can hog out the locator hole in the stock spring perch .5 inch in each side, then bolt them up. The rear I used a landcruiser axle so I don't know how close the factory perches are to the Sammy's, plus the landcruiser's are SPUA. I used All-Pro perches and u-bolt kits and it went well. I have 85 Toy axles front and rear under my 87 Sammie,there is some fabrication involved.First off Sammie springs are not as wide as Toyota springs and they are closer together(spring pad mods)plus if you plan on running 33's or larger move your front axle foward(you only have to drill one spring pad just measure the factory hole on the one that has two holes and drill the other one to match, looks like Toyota would have done that.)Your brake lines will work,just make sure you have enough travel now that you are getting instant SPOA.One thing about your brakes,make sure your Sammie master cylinder can handle the larger wheel cylinders(I changed mine over to Toyota during the axle swap). The one issue that causes the most problems is drive shaft angle(Toyota differential is close to center of axle,Sammies are off set toward the passenger side.I rotated the T-Case about 30 degress to put the drive line a little closer in line, this required fabricating new T-Case mounts,and some creative bending of the T-Case shifter.Your drive shaft flanges will have to be redrilled (some T-cases had large flange pattern though).Yea I know it looks like a lot of work,but you gain about 4" of lift,stronger axles for thoses big tires,lower gear most Toyota axles from the 4 cylinder trucks and some v-6's were 4:10.  Good luck M.Z.

cool cool, something to think about. I seriously need to do something about my weak drivetrain. I keep breaking it. So far, ive broken 2 U-joints, ripped the yoke off of one driveshaft, and broke a pinion gear. Oh, and broke the T-case out of its mounts. I plan on putting something stronger in it within a week or so...
Im already running 33's with a Spring over axle swap and a 3in body lift.
