Help With Blown Headgasket
« on: June 04, 2010, 09:22:06 PM »
I just picked up a 96 Tracker with a supposed blown headgasket----The radiator was out of it so it's not running----There didn't appear to be any antifreeze in the oil---They pointed to where the head and block come together and said it was leaking coolant from there---Have never seen one of these engines before so am clueless and don't know where to start.

Should I go to all the trouble of putting the radiator back in and trying to get it running to establish what actually is wrong----Before pulling the head to change a gasket which may or may not be the problem-----Thanks

Happy

Start with re-torquing the head bolts and you might want
to try a compression check after that.

Can the coolant leak from headgasket without any oil leaking or without the 2 mixing----Is that possible.

Oil only flows under pressure from a hole at the front of the block into the head,
this is why it is important to make sure the hole is not blocked by the head gasket
being put on the wrong way, and it is easy to do.
